The Police

Greetings Friends,

So as you all know, I am in this band called Small Town Anthem. We were thinking on how we can make our songs better, as we always do. That is the curse of being a musician is we can get so hung up on how to make things better we often put up a mental road block. Sometimes you try to drive through the road block because you don't think there is one. Then you run over a bunch of spikes that blow your tires, this spot sucks.

Well, I blew my tires. Thankfully when you blow your tires, you have to replace them. I was thinking, "Perhaps I should listen to bands with a similar sound and instrumentation." DING! DING! DING!!! Who is a band that multiple styles of music and is a three piece. Easy, THE POLICE! So I started listening to them to get some ideas. It really opened up my mind. The we watched the Stewart Copeland film, Everyone Stares: The Police Inside Out. Oh yeah, talk about inspiration.

So we (Small Town Anthem) sit down to rehearse and well, I am inspired. So I try to capture an energy similar to Stewart Copeland, and BAM!!! The song improved about a million times. We are on the right path. More work to be done, but we made it through the road block. We are almost up to speed limit now.

Enjoy the video below!

Long Time No Type

Greetings Friends,

My apologies for being horrible at keeping my blog updated. In fact, I straight up haven't. My last semester of college is keeping me quite busy. All good stuff though. Let me give you an updated with my life recently:

I have been incredibly busy with gigs. I have had the great opportunity to be playing with Phil Mattson again. What a treat and a legend in vocal music. We played the ACDA conference in Minneapolis which was great, considering I was able to play with bassist Gordon Johnson. What a treat, considering he has played with most of my favorite drummers, one being Peter Erksine! Check out The Phil Mattson Singers on March 31st at the Artists Quarter!

Also, Small Town Anthem is still in the the studio, some good things are happening and we can't wait to have a product for you all to check out! We book tons of gigs for the summer and one is May 7th at Station 4 where we will be playing for Capitol records! DAMN!!!!!!!!!!

It is SPRING BREAK! YAHOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My senior recital is April 6th at 6:00pm, check that out if you can! It will be at McNally Smith College of Music.

Oh, one last thing. RINGO STARR IS COMING TO MYSTIC LAKE CASINO THIS SUMMER!!!!!!!!! WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That is all. Peace and Love!

CRACK and WHORES

Hello all,

So tonight was the ultimate "What direction should I take my music in my life?" quest tonight.

So I played a gig at the Fine Line Music Cafe with my friends Small Town Anthem. After the show, some dude with a talent/booking agency came up to us saying "YOU ARE AWESOME, I WANT TO BOOK YOU GIGS!!!" You know, typical bullshit and he said every one line my music business teachers at McNally Smith told me watch out for and basically never trust or work with.

I basically stopped paying attention to the guy until he said this.

"DON'T WORRY, WE WILL GET YOU SINGING ABOUT CRACK AND WHORES IN NO TIME!"

Hmmm... I never really considered this one before. Let's give it a try and see if it will work out, considering these topics are totally cohesive with my feelings of life and peace among people.

Well, I better start writing some new songs.

I hope you all know I am kidding, or am I? hmmm........

Peace and Love,

Daniel
