What happens in "The Practice Session?" I feel much more than what the average person notices.
Obviously when you walk into the practice room to start woodshedding, it is to learn something new and become better on your instrument of choice. I also believe you better yourself as a person. I feel like I get to know myself better each time. I constantly learn how creative I can be. I learn how I may really feel that day. When you practice music, you are simply finding more ways to express yourself as well as expressing yourself as you are finding those ways. Now when you learn a lick or something, it may be hard to find expression in it right away, once you got it down that lick is a part of who you are.
When your in the practice room, you are not being bugged by anyone. It is simply you and your instrument. No distractions. We may make noise, but it is potentially the most peaceful room I walk into everyday. No one to bug me, I work at my own pace, and I hold nothing back. The way it should be... Maybe that is why Coltrane practiced ALL of the time.
Just some thoughts.
